Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Redemption Snippet 13
Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Each Sunday we share 8 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.
I am continuing to share parts of Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. We first meet Sydney in Tangled Hunger, book 2 of the Celestial Surrender series.
In last week’s snippet Nasir offered Sydney up to his lieutenants. Miguel and Jayden spoke up and Nasir turned it into a competition. Miguel is not happy that he allowed himself to be sucked into one of Nasir’s games, but he couldn’t stop himself. He expected the competition to take place in the ring, but the Big Bad has other plans. Interesting punctuation has been used to give you the full paragraph. We are in Miguel’s point of view.
““No,” Nasir stopped them from leaving for the ring; all levity had disappeared from his face. “I don’t want my lieutenants fighting over food.” The hairs on the back of Miguel’s neck rose; “You will share.”
Miguel bit his tongue until he tasted blood. He knew he had been too blunt, too forceful with Nasir over the last few months, but he had reached a point where he no longer cared. This had now come back to bite him.
He preferred to initiate any sharing; his leader knew that and he still would make him go through with this. Miguel could step away, leave Sydney to Jayden, but he wasn’t prepared to do so.“
Here is the blurb:
Sydney Radnall is no man’s toy, despite fate’s attempt to make her just that. A kidnapping puts her at the mercy of a sadistic Feral commander. Being held prisoner is bad enough, but her Naema blood is powerful. In her current Vampiric company her presence is like ringing a dinner bell.
In an attempt to break the commander makes her the pet of two of his lieutenants. Miguel is one of the most dangerous men she has ever met, but she can’t stop the attraction blazing between them. Then there is Jayden, a Vampire who is as surprising as he is sexy. Two Vampires she should not be attracted to, should not want to surrender to, should not trust.
But things aren’t always what they seem. Secrets and lies shadow their connections, making it impossible to see clearly. What are the chances of her finding lifemates while surrounded by enemies? And making the wrong decision could not just shatter her heart. It could cost her life.
Tangled Redemption will release on October 22nd.
I’ve had some sad family news. My brain is all over the place and what little focus I had is mostly gone, so I am still working on the outline for my next story. Fingers crossed I manage to make progress soon.
Have an amazing week and as always Happy Writing!

In last week’s snippet the Big Bad couldn’t make up his mind what to do with Sydney. In the end he offered her up to his lieutenants. Everyone jumped at the opportunity, but Miguel and Jayden spoke up first. Miguel is not happy that he allowed himself to be sucked into one of Big Bad’s games, but he couldn’t stop himself. Interesting punctuation has been used to give you the full paragraph. We are in Miguel’s point of view.
“Nasir stroked his thumb up and down Sydney’s neck as he studied the two of them. Miguel remained impassive, knowing he’d set things in motion when he spoke up-the tension between Nasir and him would come to a head.
“Wonderful, a competition,” Nasir lifted her hand to his lips; Sydney’s arm twitched. “Honorable Radnall, two of my finest want to be your suitor. You’ve already met the Spaniard, Miguel Calatrave; please allow me to introduce Jayden Maywater.” He turned to Miguel, still holding Sydney’s hand, something that made Miguel want to rip off his. “I have to say I’m surprised at your interest. You don’t generally snack with us.””
Here is the blurb:

Tangled Redemption will release on October 22nd (at least that is the plan at the moment). I am in over my head on edits for Dirigibles and want to finish them today. My mum is coming to stay with me on Monday for a few days and I want to have everything off my plate. It’s going to be a long Sunday. Wish me luck;).
Next I want to work on the outline for another steampunk story and I have an idea for another sci-fi story, the start to a series, but it needs to grow beyond the concept so I can turn it into an actual story;). I need more hours in the day. Who decided we needed to work for a living?!

Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Redemption Snippet 11

I am continuing to share parts of Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. We first meet Sydney in Tangled Hunger, book 2 of the Celestial Surrender series. Here is the preliminary blurb:
Sydney Radnall is no man’s toy, despite fate’s attempt to make her just that. A kidnapping puts her at the mercy of the sadistic Feral commander she had tried to take down. Being held prisoner is bad enough, but her Naema blood is powerful. In her current Vampiric company her presence is like ringing a dinner bell.
When the leader tries to break her by handing her over to his inner circle she ends up as the pet of two lieutenants.
In last week’s snippet Jayden watched Sydney face off with the Big Bad who is currently trying to decide what to do next with Sydney. He is surrounded by his lieutenants. Jayden is one of them and we are in hiss point of view, but the Big Bad speaks first. Interesting punctuation has been used.
“I am surrounded by my best and brightest. We’ve made a lot of progress and are only a few days away from our biggest coup to date; you all deserve a reward.”
Every muscle in Jayden’s body tensed; if Zwelenki didn’t give her to him he would fight any of the other lieutenants for her.
“Well, who wants this delicious Naema as their personal slave?” He raised his hand to stop responses. “She is too valuable to just tear apart. Whoever takes her has to keep her alive.” His smile clenched Jayden’s insides. “That doesn’t mean she has to be happy about it.”
Tangled Redemption is back with my editor and I am moving on to Dirigible Are Forever. And my mum has come for a visit from Germany. She is staying with my brother at the moment, but the plan is for me to head north for a visit today. This means I may not be able to come around until later tonight.
I am trying to decide what to do next. I had planned to work on one story, but circumstances are making me put that one aside and move on to something else. I just need to find my focus and decide what that will be. Too many ideas and concepts, too few concrete plans;).

Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Redemption Snippet 10
Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Each Sunday we share 8 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.
I am continuing to share parts of Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. I still don’t have a blurb;). We first meet Sydney in Tangled Hunger, book 2 of the Celestial Surrender series. She ends up kidnapped by Miguel, a Vampire who has the impossible task of balancing the survival of one with that of a galaxy. And then there is Jayden. His one mission is to take out the Big Bad, but now he has to balance her life with his job.
Tangled Redemption is a Sci-Fi story and takes place in a universe inhabited by humans, Vampires and Naema, a race that has been likened to angels. There is a tenuous peace between the three races, but a faction of the Vampires, the Ferals, does not want to bow down to human law. You could say there is a smidgeon of tension between them and the rest of the galaxy, expressed through a kill-on-sight order against them.
In last week’s snippet we met Jayden for the first time. We are in his point of view. He is currently watching Sydney face off with the Big Bad, keeping himself ready to jump in-he has no idea how-to assist her if necessary. She just told Big Bad she left behind easy to follow instructions on how to continue her work dismantling his empire. Big Bad speaks first and you are seeing some creative punctuation;).
“His smile disappeared. “Don’t lie to me; you travelled to Parvati to investigate my connection to the human who supplied us with food. I am impressed; no one has ever come close to putting us together.” He shrugged. “But you left nothing behind because you didn’t trust your own judgment after your husband played you like a beginner’s tutorial for StarNet.
Jayden only saw the flinch because he watched her so closely. Going by Zwelenki’s satisfied smirk he’d also seen it. His good mood restored, he walked up to the Naema and circled her like she was a curiosity; Jayden prepared himself to respond at any moment.”
I am about half-way through the edits of Tangled Redemption and hope to finish them today. This may result in me making my rounds late in the day. Once the edits are done I have to move onto the one thing I dislike more than anything: write a blurb! Give me a synopsis any day;). I am thinking about bringing the Tangled Redemption snippets to an end. I can either continue, move on to Tangled Hunger (book 2 in the series) or share snippets from a steampunk project I love, but am unsure if it will ever see the light of day. Do you have a preference?

In last week’s snippet Sydney came face-to-face with the Big Bad, surprised how the monster responsible for so many deaths and horrors looked so normal. Unbeknown to her Jayden, an undercover agent from the Vampire Council, is in the same room. They work for the same people, but have never met. We are in his point of view.
“Jayden Maywater mentally cursed in every language he could think of. And in some he just made up. What in Jade’s name was Sydney Radnall doing on Nagola? He leaned back in his chair and crossed his legs.
Notification had gone out to all the operatives as soon as the kidnapping in Parvati happened. The intel had also said that Calatrave was involved, but when Jayden had asked where the Spaniard was, he’d been told dealing with a problem. Jayden had not expected this problem to be a civilian Naema who had nearly died at the hands of her husband and then decided to join their operation.
The pictures he’d seen didn’t do her justice.”
For the first time I have received edits for two books at the same time. Both Tangled Redemption and Dirigible Are Forever are in my inbox. It will be interesting to see how I will cope with both of them;). I had an Ah-ha moment for one of the stories I am planning, which is nice. Now I just need to figure out the two other stories that tie into this one.

I am continuing to share parts of Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. I still don’t have a blurb;). My heroine is Sydney. We meet her for the first time in Tangled Hunger, book 2 of the Celestial Surrender series. Circumstances I cannot go into without spoiling everything result in her being kidnapped by a Vampire who has the impossible task of balancing the survival of one with that of a galaxy. I just realised I never mentioned the second Vampire who gets thrown into the equation and tries to find his place with these two. I will try and show Jayden soon. I may have to change his name as it’s pretty close to Sydney.
This snippet is a little after last week’s. We are back in Sydney’s point of view. Miguel has just brought them food and water to clean themselves. He is being his usual charming self, meaning he is driving Sydney crazy because she can’t get a read on him. Marissa, the human kidnapped at the same time as Sydney, speaks first.
“With a short nod he left the room. Sydney gritted her teeth, attempting not to notice his sleek movements.
“It is a shame he is the most dangerous man I have ever met. If he lightened up he’d be prime man candy.”
Sydney whirled to Marissa, gaping.
The young woman continued to wipe her face and raised her brows as if challenging Sydney to dispute her words.
Sydney couldn’t and instead burst into laughter. “I want to disagree, just out of principle, but you are right.”
Tangled Redemption is in my editor’s queue;). At the moment Marissa is chomping at the bit and demanding her own story. Unfortunately she has not been in a sharing mood, so I am still working on my outline.

Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Redemption Snippet 5
Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Each Sunday we share 8 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.
I am continuing to share parts of my WIP, Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. I don’t have a blurb yet, but I will try and give you some context.

You could say there is a smidgeon of tension between them and the rest of the galaxy, expressed through a kill-on-sight order against them.
This snippet is a little after last week’s. Sydney has defended herself successfully against the Feral attack. Despite the untenable situation she is drawn to Miguel Calatrave, the Vampire responsible for her kidnapping. She doesn’t know what to make of him. The scene is in Miguel’s point of view.
“Miguel scrutinized the Naema before him. After five years with the Ferals, four as Nasir Zwelenki’s second in command, nothing touched him any longer. But watching Sydney Radnall, a high-born Naema who should be worrying about her next society function and what to wear to it, defend herself against Feral Vampires with no hesitation had been impressive.
A part of himself he hadn’t seen or felt in years was glad she’d had the strength to kill. It would make everyone on the ship hesitate not just because he had given the order, but also because the news she’d killed would spread through the crew like wildfire.
And it had captured his attention.
He had done his best not to find her when Nasir’s orders came down, but when she’d made the stupid decision to travel to Dahir, a planet close to the central core of the system, without any protection one of her watchers had contacted Miguel and Nasir in the same communication.
His position was too important to risk going against Nasir. Miguel would do his best to keep the intriguing Honorable Radnall safe, but there were bigger things at stake.”
This is still very raw, so any and all comments are welcome.
Tangled Redemption is with my critique partner. This means I am jumping between delighted glee and utter terror that she hates every word…so basically the usual state for a writer;). While I’m waiting for her feedback I am outlining a three novella series that follows the events of my steampunk Christmas story Dirigibles Are Forever, coming from Loose Id in December. This is a long weekend in Canada and I have just discovered that there will be a Sharknado double bill on Monday. I know what I’ll be doing.

I am continuing to share the opening of my WIP, Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. It is not yet finished and has not been polished;). This snippet is a little after last week’s. Sydney had been attacked by three Ferals. She managed to take out one and Miguel Calatrave, her kidnapper, took out a second. When she tells him she will not allow anyone to drink her blood, he challenges her to ensure her reputation stops more attacks. There is still one more Feral she has to face…
“Her chest tightened and she looked back into Calatrave’s jet-black eyes; his expression was impassive, but something in his eyes gave her strength.
The first one had been self-defense.
The next one had to be an execution.
She had killed once before.
A traitor to their country and their planet.
A traitor to their species.
A traitor to her.
Her husband.”
This is still very raw, so any and all comments are welcome.
The first draft of Tangled Redemption is done (happy dance), but it’s a bit of a mess. I am working through and am hoping I will get it in good enough shape to send to my critique partner tonight. I will do my best to get to everyone before the marathon starts;).

This snippet is immediately after last week’s. Sydney has just killed a Feral and faces two more when the man responsible for her kidnapping walks in.
“He appeared to grasp the situation with one look and grabbed the nearest Feral, killing him with a quick twist of that neck. The third attacker froze, his beady eyes jumping between her and Tall, Dark and Dangerous.
Sydney took a couple of steps back to give herself more room. She would fight to the bitter end.
“Honorable Radnall, what are you planning to do?” He was taller than her, something that didn’t happen that often. His skin was darkly tanned and his black eyes gave nothing away. With every movement, every inch of his muscular body, he showed her he was a warrior.
She had trained with men like him, had been taught by them, but she had never managed to best even one of them.”
This is still very raw, so any and all comments are welcome. I will be in the writing cage all day as I am hoping to finish the first draft today, so I won’t come around until later in the day.

Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Redemption Snippet 2
Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Each Sunday we share 8 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.
Today I am sharing the opening of my current WIP, Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. It is not yet finished and has not been polished;). I don’t have a blurb yet either, but I will try and give you some context.
My heroine is Sydney. We meet her for the first time in Tangled Hunger, book 2 of the Celestial Surrender series. Tangled Redemption is a Sci-Fi story and takes place in a universe inhabited by humans, Vampires and Naema, a race that has been likened to angels. You could say there is a smidgeon of tension between them and the rest of the galaxy, expressed through a kill-on-sight order against them.
This snippet is immediately after last week’s and from the opening paragraphs of the story. Sydney faces three Ferals who are not about to invite her for tea and she smiled at them…In order to give you the whole snippet I had to use creative punctuation.
“The lead Feral’s gaze narrowed.
She didn’t give him a chance to respond, but leaped and rammed her knee into his groin. He folded over with a whimper; she grabbed a hunk of his hair and slammed the bottom of her palm into his nose. Cartilage crunched as she jammed the shattered bones into his brain.
Eyes wide he dropped to the floor; dead.
Sydney panted; her hand found the cold synth-metal wall of the spaceship for a second, before straightening again. She stopped herself from rubbing her sore hand; the other two Ferals gaped at her. She wanted to smirk, but she’d lost the advantage of surprise-they recovered and converged on her; before they had even taken one step the door slid open and Tall, Dark and Dangerous, the man—no, the Vampire—responsible for her kidnapping, strode in.”
This is still very raw, so any and all comments are welcome.
