I’m continuing to share from my current work in progress FPWL. It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. This snippet comes a little after my last one. Clara approached Jens, the young stewart she made blush in the first snippet. Garrett, my hero overheard part of the conversation and stepped closer. After some back and forth where she plays a bit of a role for Jens she shows him a hint of her true self. We’re in his point of view.

“Intelligence filled her grey eyes. Her lips, up until now curved in a slight smile, firmed and straightened.

He raised his right eyebrow.

She narrowed her gaze, but didn’t say anything. Instead she studied him from the tips of his boots to the top of his head and every inch in between. Heat spread through his body, unexpected and not completely welcome.

Then she raised her brow and mirrored his stance.

He couldn’t help himself and smiled-it had been a very, very long time since a woman had intrigued him after just exchanging two sentences. “

What works, what doesn’t?

Last week I was in Germany visiting my mum so I had to miss you guys. I’m looking forward to catching up with your fabulous stories again. I’m playing with a couple of ideas for two new series, very different from anything I’ve done so far. One is contemporary and the other is paranormal romance. I’m very much in the beginning stages and need to see if either or both develop into more.

Have a wonderful Sunday and Happy Writing!

I’m continuing to share from my current work in progress FPWL. It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. This snippet comes a little after last week’s. Clara explored some of the dirigible, but could not access all the areas she needed to explore. After chatting with the other passengers she approaches Jens, the young stewart she made blush in the first snippet. My hero overhears part of the conversation and steps closer. We’re in his point of view.

“Garrett Dewhurst studied the vision before him. She was tall and willowy, her streamlined figure on display in a sleek dress and short jacket that framed her breasts like a present. For a second her grey eyes flashed and then took on a more neutral look.

The hairs on the back his neck rose and his instincts tingled.

Their eyes locked.

Fierce intelligence filled her expression.

He crossed his arms over his chest. “Stuff in what?” he repeated his question.”

What works, what doesn’t? His question is in response to something Clara said a couple of paragraphs before.

I’m continuing to share from my current work in progress FPWL. It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. This snippet comes a little after last week’s. Clara has explored some of the dirigible and joined the rest of the passengers in the lounge. Someone new just entered said lounge:

“Captain Nolan had arrived. He strode up to the first group of passengers sitting around a small table and introduced himself.

This was one of the most difficult parts of her role as an undercover agent for His Excellency, the Prime Minister. Part of her, a dark and ruthless part she had to keep under tight control, just wanted to kill the traitor. He was about to endanger hundreds if not thousands of innocent people.

But there was no guarantee that his death would be the end of it.

She followed him with her eyes as he worked his way around the room, being all captain-y and in charge.

And the smuggler and seller of bombs so small and sophisticated, yet so powerful they could not be allowed to change hands – hands that were probably unfriendly towards the Empire.”

What works, what doesn’t?

I was nearly ready to write “The End” and then I realized a couple of things which mean I’m now probably another 10-15k away from “The End”. Not quite sure how I feel about that…

I’m continuing to share from my current work in progress FPWL. The day job blew up all over me so I haven’t had the time to work on my revisions adding to my general levels of frustration. *exhales and finds her happy place* It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. This snippet comes shortly after last week’s when Clara made the young steward blush.

“Clara took pity on him; she nodded her thanks and followed the Otto. The automaton was anchored into the floor on a track and rolled ahead of her. The anchor made sense as it meant the machine would remain stable during turbulences or altitude drops.

It also meant it could only follow predetermined routes.

Out of the corner of her eyes Clara catalogued the tracks, mapping them in her head against the intel she’d received before the mission.

Within a few minutes they stood outside a non-descript door. She had the expected corner cabin giving her only one neighbour-and that cabin would miraculously stay unoccupied.

It were the details that counted.”

I’m continuing to share from my current work in progress FPWL. The first draft is mostly done, but I made some changes in the second half of the book, which means I now have to go back and ensure continuity. It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. It’s still pretty raw, so please be gentle;). This snippet comes directly after last week’s and we are in Clara’s point of view.

“A human steward, his nametag identified him as Jens Althoff, greeted her at the top. He looked to be in that stage where he hadn’t quite finished growing nor had quite put on the muscle that made him a man. “Wilkommen, Fräulein Riesenbeck; wir sind so glücklich Sie an Bord zu begrüßen und wünschen Ihnen einen wunderbaren Flug.”

Clara replied in accent-free German as she handed him her ticket. “Thank you for your kind welcome. I am excited to be here and am looking forward to an enjoyable flight.” She batted her eyelashes a few times. “It’s the first time I’m riding a dirigible this big,” her breathy sigh at the end was timed perfectly.

Jens blushed.”

I’m sharing the opening of my current work in progress FPWL. The first draft is mostly done, but I made some changes in the second half of the book, which means I now have to go back and ensure continuity. It’s a companion novel to Dirigibles Are Forever and hopefully the beginning of a trilogy. It’s still pretty raw, so please be gentle;).

“Clara Redbeck, currently travelling under the name Clara Riesenbeck—it always made it easier to stick close to the truth—paused at the bottom of the ramp and studied the Bismarck. The dirigible was one of the modern multi-level models and would take her all the way from Tilsit, on the east coast of Prussia, to London. Or as far as she had to go before she could disembark.

Clara had a plan and this plan involved showing the knobs at work that she was more than capable of fulfilling this mission. Alone and without being dependent on untrustworthy partners. Untrustworthy male partners. It would be a very, very long time until she trusted a man again.

She swiped her ticket barcode through the automated steward’s facade and the barricade opened. With a smile to the camera she picked up her hand luggage and walked up the ramp.”

What works, what doesn’t? Is the second paragraph too much?

Toronto is in a deep freeze at the moment, the windchill putting us at around -21C (-5.8F). Just a wee bit nippy. Any trip into the outside world has to be planned in minute detail to ensure you spend as little time as possible out of the warmth. Wherever you are I hope you’re staying nice and warm;).

Dirigibles Are Forever Release Day and Contest!

Today is the day! I am so very, very excited to celebrate the release of Dirigibles Are Forever, my super-sexy Christmas novella set in an alternative Victorian London, filled with adventure, secrets and fun, and a dash of James Bond.

I love this story! It was a blast to write it and Holly and Jack have a special place in my heart. Both of them face difficult decisions and Holly is working hard to find her place in the world. It is not the Victorian London you are used to, but a London where Her Majesty Queen Victoria passed the Equal Rights Act and women can do whatever they want…including being Aether Traffic Controllers;). But Holly no longer believes it is enough. She wants more, but has not yet found what this more is.

TC_DirigiblesAreForever

Working as an Aether Traffic Controller saved Holly Acklin after the death of her husband, but now she wants more—including a night of uninhibited passion with Jack Smith, whose very presence has kept her body tingling for months.

Special Agent Jack Smith kept his identity a secret when he came to the London Royal Port Authority with one assignment, one he cannot fail. It holds him back from following his attraction to Holly. But on the eve he must complete the mission, Holly asks for one night with no rules or boundaries, and his control snaps.

When London experiences an unexpectedly white Christmas, all dirigible traffic is grounded, leaving Holly and Jack free to act upon their stormy passions. Holly finds her determination to stay emotion-free crumbling unaware Jack is experiencing the same need. Each lover wishes for more, but fears it can’t be. Instead they focus their desires in mind-blowing passion.

But when Holly discovers that Jack isn’t who he claimed to be, everything is thrown into turmoil. Can she trust the man she thought she knew?

Now on to the contests! Yes, plural:). I have two fun contests waiting for your participation.

Books, Books, Books!

A number of years ago I stumbled across a books called Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh. I was pulled into the world and the characters. Now I have just finished Rule Breaker.

beastrule

Rule Breaker is book 29 in the Breeds series. I have read pretty much each and every one of them with a couple of exception that were novellas in anthologies. You could say I am invested in finding out how the series continues.

I can’t imagine it being easy to maintain a series for this length of time. As I mentioned when I talked about Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series, I love how she is bringing the current arch to an end. J.D. Robb is a master at it. I have no idea how many In Death books there are, but every time you read one she grounds you in her world and gives you context who everyone is. I still enjoy Lora Leigh’s writing and I love seeing characters I’ve either followed on their journey or characters I want to see find their HEA, but I struggled with the first third of Rule Breaker.

The author expected you to remember everything and I didn’t. There was very little to ground me in the world or help to orientate myself on who was who. Some characters are more memorable, Jonas, for example, but he has appeared in every single book, but a lot of the names were without context to me. This meant I read one or two other books while Rule Breaker sat on my shelf. By the way, totally random side note, after 28 books that were ALL PAPERBACK, why the heck did they think it was a good decision to put book 29 into hardcover?! It is a bit of brick and a nightmare to lug around. And it totally doesn’t fit with all the other books on the shelf and nerd that I am I like my books to fit.

Anyway, the beginning was a little rough, but once the story got going and Gypsy Rum (yes, the names in this book were…interesting; not sure if that was on purpose or by accident) and Rule got together I was back in the story. If you like scorching hot sex and emotional roller-coaster rides Rule Breaker is the book for you.

What have you been reading recently that you loved?

Weekend Writing Warrior-Rescue by Ruin Snippet 8

Today I have another snippet from Rescue by Ruin, a Victorian steampunk story. Bea and Vaughn escaped the AirPirates in a dashing flight filled with swash and buckle. Now they are back on the ground and Bea has to decide on what she wants to do next.

“He studied her face. “Is that really what you want? Don’t you think we have a few things to talk about, Beatrice?”

Bea wanted to curl her cheek into the warmth of his hand. His eyes, even covered by goggles, held a need and a vulnerability she couldn’t ignore. Nor could she ignore the demand inside herself to spend more time with this exciting and fascinating man.

And they had to talk about how to move on from this tenuous position.

She nodded.”

I am currently enjoying the beautiful sunshine on St. Croix. Here is the view from my window:

Happy Sunday and Happy Writing.

Forced to marry a violent man, Beatrice knows only one way out—ruin her reputation. She climbs aboard the Venia, a dirigible of ill repute, for a masquerade. Bea does not expect to run into Vaughn Kemple, the third Duke of Missenden, who eight months ago left her without an explanation. Feeling secure behind her mask, she decides Vaughn will be the one to ruin her. She may not get to spend forever with this man she still loves, but at least she can have one night of pleasure.

But a mask is not enough to hide her identity. Vaughn recognizes Bea, shocked to find her aboard an airship where sexual freedom isn’t just a thought, it’s celebrated. But her actions are far from innocent. Captivated, he’s determined to make her his.

The heat between them flares, but Vaughn is torn between desire and honor. Bea is afraid to risk her heart on a man she can’t trust. And when her future husband arrives on the scene, it’s more than their hearts in danger.

Buy it from Ellora’s Cave, Amazon or Kobo.

If you would like to win a copy of Rescue by Ruin come to HappilyEverAfterThoughts and comment. Contest runs until Tuesday 18th.

Weekend Writing Warriors Snippet 4

Happy Sunday, everyone. It is time for another Weekend Writing Warriors snippet. Check here to see all the other amazing authors.

better-wewriwa

This is the fourth snippet from my current, untitled WIP, Sexy Steampunk 2, the sequel to Rescue by Ruin. The book is not yet finished and has no blurb. Archer and Warren want Susan to be their third. London 1897 does not exactly have an open society, so they have to be very careful on how they approach her. Susan went to Archer, who she has a crush on, for help and ended up posing naked for Warren, who is a painter. They had just introduced her to their touch and she had responded with a proposal neither man had expected. Unfortunately it had thrown Archer into a tailspin, leaving Warren to do everything in his power to get them back on track to fulfilling their long-term goal. And if it means driving Archer wild so he finally gives up control and sees the bigger picture, then so be it.

“Archer was exquisite as he lounged on the bed, the tanned skin of his naked torso shimmering in the soft light. The narrow line of hair that disappeared behind the top of his trousers and the hard cock pushing against the cotton.

Warren swallowed. God, he loved Archer so much and he wanted nothing more than to see him happy. But this campaign for a third was hurting both of them on different levels. They had to find their balance again, their foundation, otherwise everything they did could be for naught.

“I don’t see you taking off your clothes,” Warren’s voice was rough, his desire too strong to appear unmoved.

And Archer knew it; he grinned like a cat that had swallowed the canary as he slowly, oh-so-slowly, rolled off the bed and to his feet.”

As always, this snippet has not yet been polished;). Have a great Sunday and a fabulous week.
