I’m continuing to share from my upcoming release Shadow Codex. Last week we met Caleigh, a witch on a quest for an ancient codex that is supposed to help her banish an angry god. The final line last week was about Cernnunos, the afore mentioned angry god intent on destroying the planet. “He wasn’t wrong, they had made a complete mess of the world, but sending a plague that killed its victims slowly and with torturous pain wasn’t exactly the best solution.”

Caleigh rubbed her brow. The illness stumped doctors. Panic had begun to creep into the population. Her neighbors and friends were stocking up on supplies. Online articles mentioned gun sales had doubled in the Bay Area in the last five days. And at her store customers had been buying up homesteading and survival books.

So far the outbreaks were contained in four or five major cities across most of the larger countries, but doomsday lovers were quick to point out that if no countermeasures were found, the plague would continue to spread unstoppably. Once the victims had reached a certain number, the balance would tip and humanity would die.

For once those doomsday lovers knew what they were talking about, which was why Mai, Zoe, and Caleigh had been sent on individual quests to find ways to take out the god. It was Caleigh’s job to find this codex, and she had a measly seven days.

Here is the preliminary blurb:

One witch. One shifter. One angry god hell-bent on the destruction of the world.

Witch Caleigh hunts for the Shadow Codex. She has seven days to unearth it and learn the spell to banish a god before he can do the wipe out the world thing. She didn’t anticipate being joined by sexy Sawyer, the man she’s had a crush on for months. After having suffered devastating loss she’s no longer willing to risk her heart, so a crush is all it can be.

Sawyer has one goal: fulfil his duty as alpha and protect his pack at all cost. Being sidetracked by luscious Caleigh wasn’t part of the plan. When he discovers they are after the same book he’s happy to savor every moment with her. That is all he can do. Because bringing a human into a world where physical prowess is everything would kill her.

The chemistry between them grows explosive until danger catapults them over the edge. Caleigh has to decide how much she’s willing to risk. Sawyer needs to determine if his pack is all that matters. When danger closes in it may be easier to banish a god than to face their inner demons.

I’m currently working on the next book in the series and struggled with the opening. Luckily I had dinner with two friends last night and we came up with a much better solution. Now I just need to watch some classic Hepburn/Tracy movies. Such a chore…;)

And of course I can’t leave you without a sexy shifter;).

Sizzling Summer Nights Blog Hop

Welcome, welcome! Thank you so much for stopping by on your JustRomance.Me’s Sizzling Summer Nights Blog Hop.

I hope you are having oodles of fun checking out new authors and catching up with old favourites. There are tons of prizes and excitement to be had and the big grand prize is a 16GB Kindle Fire. Good luck!

I would like to introduce you to the Celestial Surrender universe, inhabited by Humans, Vampires and Naemas.

All my Vampire heroes are mouthwatering and delicious with that extra kick that make women’s knees wobble. Please be advised to stay far, far away from all Vampires with glaring red eyes as they are Ferals and most likely will drain you off your blood after playing with you for some time. Imagine a cat with a mouse.

Naemas have been likened to angels and demons by the humans in this galaxy. They have incredible powers, but to control these require an iron control. With a leader pushing them more and more into a regime of logic and efficiency love has become a rare gift. They used to wear their beautiful and sensual wings with pride, but now they have become an expression of emotions and have to be hidden away. Luckily this is a decree not everyone follows…

Humans may not be as powerful or as strong as Vampires or Naemas, but they have the strength of numbers and keen intelligence. Remember that they come in all shapes and attitudes. Just because they are human doesn’t mean they are weak.

I have just sent Tangled Redemption, book 4 in my Celestial Surrender series, to my critique partner. I cannot wait to find out what she has to say. She has been waiting for this book since I first mentioned the Spaniard in Tangled Shadows. Fingers crossed the book (and the Spaniard) live up to her expectations;). Tangled Redemption finishes the main story arch in the series and will bring almost everything to a conclusion (hey, I have to keep a few loose ends otherwise there are no more stories;).

If you could meet any Paranormal for a hot date, in my world or in any other, who would you like to get close to? Comment for the chance to win a $10 Ellora’s Cave gift card and have a blast on the rest of your trip. Happy Reading!

Books, Books, Books!

A number of years ago I stumbled across a books called Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh. I was pulled into the world and the characters. Now I have just finished Rule Breaker.

beastrule

Rule Breaker is book 29 in the Breeds series. I have read pretty much each and every one of them with a couple of exception that were novellas in anthologies. You could say I am invested in finding out how the series continues.

I can’t imagine it being easy to maintain a series for this length of time. As I mentioned when I talked about Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series, I love how she is bringing the current arch to an end. J.D. Robb is a master at it. I have no idea how many In Death books there are, but every time you read one she grounds you in her world and gives you context who everyone is. I still enjoy Lora Leigh’s writing and I love seeing characters I’ve either followed on their journey or characters I want to see find their HEA, but I struggled with the first third of Rule Breaker.

The author expected you to remember everything and I didn’t. There was very little to ground me in the world or help to orientate myself on who was who. Some characters are more memorable, Jonas, for example, but he has appeared in every single book, but a lot of the names were without context to me. This meant I read one or two other books while Rule Breaker sat on my shelf. By the way, totally random side note, after 28 books that were ALL PAPERBACK, why the heck did they think it was a good decision to put book 29 into hardcover?! It is a bit of brick and a nightmare to lug around. And it totally doesn’t fit with all the other books on the shelf and nerd that I am I like my books to fit.

Anyway, the beginning was a little rough, but once the story got going and Gypsy Rum (yes, the names in this book were…interesting; not sure if that was on purpose or by accident) and Rule got together I was back in the story. If you like scorching hot sex and emotional roller-coaster rides Rule Breaker is the book for you.

What have you been reading recently that you loved?

Books, Books, Books!!

I am attempting to add a regular new feature to my blog. Through “Books, Books, Books” I want to share some of the fabulous and exciting books that have crossed my paths. There may be something resembling a review or it could just be a lot of gushing…like for this book:

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

I have been following this series since the beginning and had the pleasure of meeting her at the Romantic Times Convention in New Orleans. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met and very sweet. When Nalini mentioned at one of her panels that they had 100 copies of Shield of Winter two week before the official release date I was first in line;).

Here is the blurb:

Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.

For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…

Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness…

I just love Nalini’s style of writing. Her characters are well thought out and believable. I would love to hang out with them;). What I really like is that Nalini is bringing this arc of the story that she started 13 books ago to an end and that she is tying up everything she mentioned throughout the series. Very often it feels like a series just continues on and on with no clear goal or end in sight. For the Psy/Changeling series there will be one more book bringing showing us how the characters deal with everything that happened throughout the books. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be more books in this world, but they will have a different core.

Anyway, after all that, if you haven’t already start the series RUN to the store and buy Slave to Sensation, book 1. You have 13 books to get through, which should take you about a week because you won’t be able to stop reading, and then you only have to wait for only one more.

What book have you read recently that has jumped to the top of your keeper shelf?
