I’m back! And I’m about to share the opening ten lines from my upcoming release Shadow Codex. It’s a paranormal erotic romance and a complete departure from my previous Sci-Fi and Steampunk books. It will release the beginning of April from Loose Id and I’m very excited.

Caleigh O’Bryant loved being a witch. It suited her just fine, and heck, having magic course through your body at the height of a spell was a pretty awesome feeling.

Unfortunately the whole being-a-witch thing meant the Tri-Goddess, or rather her representatives, led the coven. And wasn’t it just lovely that the San Francisco coven was big enough to warrant all three representatives: the maid, the mother, and the crone? They were just so lucky.

Not.

Especially when all three of them called you into their office—she still found it weird to put the words goddess and office into one sentence—and told you to find an ancient codex because it included an incantation that would send a newly awakened god back to his dimension. Turned out when Cernnunos, a version of the Green Man and the protector of everything green and alive, awoke, he hadn’t been too happy with the state of the planet. He’d decided that humanity was at fault and needed to be removed.

He wasn’t wrong, they had made a complete mess of the world, but sending a plague that killed its victims slowly and with torturous pain wasn’t exactly the best solution.

Edit: I just realized I never added a blurb, so here is a preliminary version:

One witch. One shifter. One angry god hell-bent on the destruction of the world.

Witch Caleigh hunts for the Shadow Codex. She has seven days to unearth it and learn the spell to banish a god before he can do the wipe out the world thing. She didn’t anticipate being joined by sexy Sawyer, the man she’s had a crush on for months. After having suffered devastating loss she’s no longer willing to risk her heart, so a crush is all it can be.

Sawyer has one goal: fulfil his duty as alpha and protect his pack at all cost. Being sidetracked by luscious Caleigh wasn’t part of the plan. When he discovers they are after the same book he’s happy to savor every moment with her. That is all he can do. Because bringing a human into a world where physical prowess is everything would kill her.

The chemistry between them grows explosive until danger catapults them over the edge. Caleigh has to decide how much she’s willing to risk. Sawyer needs to determine if his pack is all that matters. When danger closes in it may be easier to banish a god than to face their inner demons.

The last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Last September I bought my first home, a condo, and with a closing of two weeks had a few things I needed to get sorted;). I’ve moved in, and Emma and I have even gotten mostly used to being in the new space. Then a few things at the EDJ changed (aka blew up), meaning I suddenly had a new boss, a new team and basically a new job. I love it and am incredibly grateful I still have a job, but it’s still a bit of a roller coaster (and long hours).

I look forward to catching up on everyone’s stories and of course I can’t leave you without a sexy shifter;).

A Wish Granted by Leela Lou Dahlin

I’m excited to share my friend and fellow Nice Girl Leela Lou Dahlin’s latest release A Wish Granted.

An attractive lovers holding each other in underwear

Blurb

Allyn Hauser likes sex, and she loves to play…role play. For her special guy, she’ll be the college professor to his frat boy, the damsel in distress to his greedy mechanic or the demanding client to his red hot masseuse. This sexy role play allows her to be close to the man she wants and having the hottest sex she’s ever had, while attempting to keep her heart at a distance. The man in question is the brother of her best friend, the most sought after bachelor, and all around Adonis…Logan Patterson.

With her best friend getting married everything is about to change and she’s trying to be okay with that, but the week of the wedding Allyn’s world starts to fall apart. Allyn must decide if is she going to keep her true feelings concealed and live with the lies or will she stop hiding behind the games, risk it all, and accept what Logan’s offering as A Wish Granted.

Heroine

Allyn Hauser is a woman who’s had my heart since she first ran through my head. She’s had a hard life but she’s a fighter. A woman who’s trying to protect herself from change and further heartache and loss. Her very best friend is getting married and there will be a change in the dynamic of their relationship. This reminds her of all the other losses she’s had growing up as a foster child. There is something to be said for a survivor, a person who keeps going even when the going gets tough. It’s one of the reasons I brought this out independently. I like Allyn flaws and all and I hope you do too.

This story started as a way to see if I could write a story that would be engaging. In 2010 I entered my first attempt in The Stroke of Midnight contest by Passionate Ink and I was a finalist. That was the beginning of me taking my writing seriously. This story has had a good number of changes but I love Allyn and Logan more now than I did when I first met them and I can’t wait until you meet them, as well.

Weekend Writing Warriors-Blindsided Snippet 11

Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors, the perfect place to discover new authors and fall in love with their writing. Each Sunday we share 8 to 10 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.

I’m continuing with my WIP Blindsided. This is a few days after the last snippet, in which Jace picked up his stowaway dog from Ana at her office. Over the next few days Ana keeps thinking about Jace, but she’s growing more and more tense because her car is acting up and she’s hearing voices while driving, but there’s no one there. At work her files are acting up, not saving properly, but without rhyme or reason. Let’s just say she’s getting a little tense even when she’s doing her best not to let it affect her. And then she works late one night. We are in her point of view.

“After another day that resembled a marathon more than a workday and ended way after regular people’s bedtime—the compressed deadlines Book Lovers had were best described as challenging—she walked outside to her car.

Night had fallen, but the lamps scattered across the parking lot made her feel safe enough.

Or they did until light after light went dark.

She pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed 9-1, ready to hit the final 1 at a moment’s notice.

A sound like footsteps echoed around her. She cursed her need to be healthy and to park at the far end of the lot to get some extra steps into her day. If she made it out of this she’ll join the gym and park right at the entrance.

Ana shoved her bags so they hung from her shoulder, held the phone in her left hand and moved her keys so one poked out between her fingers of her right hand like a dagger. Or rather like something that would hopefully hurt anyone stupid enough to attack her in sensitive places.

The steps behind her grew louder and heavier.”

What works, what doesn’t?

I’ll be around later in the day as I’m spending a lot of time at my new place and preparing things for it.

It was tight, but I still found some time to do research just for you guys;).

Weekend Writing Warriors-Blindsided Snippet 10

I’m continuing with my WIP Blindsided. This is a few paragraphs after the last snippet in which Ana admired Jace’s form when he came to pick up the dog (I’m changing the name, but haven’t reached that point in the revisions, so for now he’s still Reacher).

Ana is the fiction buyer for a major (made up;) book retailer and suggests a couple of books (she has copies the publishers shared with her) to Jace based on the choice he made for his dog’s name. Reacher joins them when he hears Jace’s voice. We’re still in Ana’s point of view.

For a moment they both just stood there looking at each other. Ana searched for something intelligent and captivating to say, something that would extend their time together, but, as usual in these moments, her mind was utterly blank.

He cleared his throat and lifted the books. “Thanks for the reading material.”

“You’re welcome. Thank you for fixing my car.” She bent down to Reacher. “Thanks for the company.” Reacher wagged his tail and grinned from ear to ear. Ana laughed and shook her head.

What works, what doesn’t?

Tha last three weeks have been a bit insane for me. I bought my very first condo! Everything is moving incredibly quickly (I have a two week closing date) so my brain is mostly mush and I’m feeling somewhat overwhelmed;). I now need to make decorating decisions and start packing as I’m moving by the end of next month. What?!? How the heck did that happen?!
