I’m back! And I’m about to share the opening ten lines from my upcoming release Shadow Codex. It’s a paranormal erotic romance and a complete departure from my previous Sci-Fi and Steampunk books. It will release the beginning of April from Loose Id and I’m very excited.

Caleigh O’Bryant loved being a witch. It suited her just fine, and heck, having magic course through your body at the height of a spell was a pretty awesome feeling.

Unfortunately the whole being-a-witch thing meant the Tri-Goddess, or rather her representatives, led the coven. And wasn’t it just lovely that the San Francisco coven was big enough to warrant all three representatives: the maid, the mother, and the crone? They were just so lucky.

Not.

Especially when all three of them called you into their office—she still found it weird to put the words goddess and office into one sentence—and told you to find an ancient codex because it included an incantation that would send a newly awakened god back to his dimension. Turned out when Cernnunos, a version of the Green Man and the protector of everything green and alive, awoke, he hadn’t been too happy with the state of the planet. He’d decided that humanity was at fault and needed to be removed.

He wasn’t wrong, they had made a complete mess of the world, but sending a plague that killed its victims slowly and with torturous pain wasn’t exactly the best solution.

Edit: I just realized I never added a blurb, so here is a preliminary version:

One witch. One shifter. One angry god hell-bent on the destruction of the world.

Witch Caleigh hunts for the Shadow Codex. She has seven days to unearth it and learn the spell to banish a god before he can do the wipe out the world thing. She didn’t anticipate being joined by sexy Sawyer, the man she’s had a crush on for months. After having suffered devastating loss she’s no longer willing to risk her heart, so a crush is all it can be.

Sawyer has one goal: fulfil his duty as alpha and protect his pack at all cost. Being sidetracked by luscious Caleigh wasn’t part of the plan. When he discovers they are after the same book he’s happy to savor every moment with her. That is all he can do. Because bringing a human into a world where physical prowess is everything would kill her.

The chemistry between them grows explosive until danger catapults them over the edge. Caleigh has to decide how much she’s willing to risk. Sawyer needs to determine if his pack is all that matters. When danger closes in it may be easier to banish a god than to face their inner demons.

The last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Last September I bought my first home, a condo, and with a closing of two weeks had a few things I needed to get sorted;). I’ve moved in, and Emma and I have even gotten mostly used to being in the new space. Then a few things at the EDJ changed (aka blew up), meaning I suddenly had a new boss, a new team and basically a new job. I love it and am incredibly grateful I still have a job, but it’s still a bit of a roller coaster (and long hours).

I look forward to catching up on everyone’s stories and of course I can’t leave you without a sexy shifter;).

  1. Welcome back, Tina. Wild and wooly snippet with witches and all. I’m looking forward to learning more.

  2. Welcome back! I’m intrigued by the premise for this book and of course loved the excerpt. I enjoy your character’s ‘voice’.

  3. Tina! Welcome back! Love, love, LOVE this premise. Modern and old wound together, the triple goddess in a downtown office. Ha. Can’t wait to hear more!

  4. Welcome back, Tina! Sounds like your life has been a tad crazy. Hope it’s settling down some. 🙂

I like this snippet. I think it’s so neat when paranormal meets the here and now. It seems amusingly incongruous–but works for a great tale! Nicely done!

  5. Uh – I forgot what I was going to say when I saw that sexy shifter photo – wow!!!
The beginning of your story is great. Can’t wait to read more. And the post under this one about the ultimate dog tease – I that is my all-time favourite video!
    Tweeted.

    • Lol, I was quite taken with the picture myself;). And I love that dog tease video. I laugh my head off no matter how often I’ve seen it.
Thank you for stopping by and for your kid words:).

  6. As a human, I’d dislike the plague idea, too. It’s too bad they can’t work with the god somehow, though–the planet *is* in sad shape.

  7. I missed your steampunk adventures, Tina. And I guess I’ll have to go on missing them. Sniff.

  8. Hi Tina! I love the image of the triune Goddess in an office! Looks interesting – I’m looking forward to seeing more.

  9. Tina, it’s good to see you back. This excerpt is a riot, really great atmosphere and character voice. Hope you stick with posting from this one for a few more weeks!

Yikes! Cernnunos scares me. I hope that’s not really what he plans to do, or we are in trouble. Great snippet!
