Weekend Writing Warriors-Danger by Dalliance Snippet 6
Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors. Each Sunday we share 8 sentences from a current or finished manuscript. Click here for the rest of the amazing writers participating.
I am continuing to share snippets from Danger by Dalliance, a historical erotic menage with steampunk elements. It comes a couple of paragraphs after last week’s snippet. Archer and Sarah are alone. She has asked Archer for an early payment of her father’s royalties, but will not tell him what she needs the money for. When he prods her she blurts out she needs a new wardrobe. His response follows and it may have been just a little snarky … I have used some creative punctuation;)
“Archer didn’t believe her-Sarah Rigdon was not the type of woman who would come to him asking for money for something as frivolous as new clothes. Hell, most of the time she was buried under so many layers she probably had enough clothes to last a lifetime. “Do you seriously expect me to believe you need more clothes?” He gestured at the three layers that covered her, “You appear to be wearing enough clothes to cover yourself and three more people.”
She narrowed her gaze; her nostrils flared: “Will you do it or not?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. What are you willing to do in exchange?”
Life at work is still crazy. Tangled Redemption isn’t coming together the way I like it, which means I have to push through the first draft and hope I can fix it in edits;).
Have an amazing week and as always Happy Writing!
Danger by Dalliance
Sarah Rigdon is desperate. Penniless with taxes due, she can either beg mercy from the ruthless tax collector or turn to the last man she wants to ask for help. Archer Latimer stirs desires no proper lady would ever admit to. Though their meetings always end in quarrels, she can’t deny the heat between them. When he agrees to help, Sarah thinks her luck has turned. But she should have known nothing with Archer is ever easy.
Archer and his lover Warren Dorvee have spent years searching for the right woman to complete their family. Both believe luscious Sarah is the one and now have a chance to pursue her. After all, the price of Archer’s help is for Sarah to pose for Warren’s latest painting. Nude.
But trust has to be earned and a crisis in London threatens their love. The three must navigate through lust, lies and secrets or risk being torn apart forever.

Yes, what is she willing to do? Can’t wait to hear her response, both internal and external. Great snippet.
Thank you:).
Can a woman ever have too much clothes? Maybe she wants a new color.
Lol, I completely agree, but in this instance she would not go to all this trouble for more clothes;).
Hmm, interesting, my curiosity is certainly up over why she needs clothes and is asking him to fund the purchase…so, a very well done snippet! Can’t wait to learn more.
Thank you;).
As I understand it, her real need is to pay taxes, but she’s ashamed–afraid? to admit that. But the layers of clothes considered proper at that time is amusing.
Yes, she needs the money for taxes, but she is doing everything in her power not to tell him why she needs the money.
What IS she willing to do in exchange? I’m curious to know too! Great snippet, Tina!
Thank you!
I’ve always thought it was no surprise proper ladies were considered near useless, considering the pounds of clothes they had to haul around. It must have been exhausting!
Absolutely!
“Yes, but the bottom layers are so out of mode, I blush every time I cover them with the rest!” 😀
LOL! I love it!
I don’t think is was very clear in the snippet that Sarah is lying, that her need for a new wardrobe is an excuse and that Archer is trying to push her buttons.
No, I think it was perfectly clear, Tina. Don’t worry about that—we’re just having fun mocking her excuse, and that means we’re already invested. 🙂
Good to know;).
The tone (both of theirs) came through loud and clear! Nicely done, Tina. 🙂 I hope you have a good week, too, and that work-craziness settles down. 🙂
Thank you, Teresa.
Oh yes, what is she willing to do? Hmm, I wonder : )
🙂
